The jEdit release plain is indirectly related to the Isabelle development
process, so I am fowarding this here.
Maybe someone wants to lend a hand at this project. They are especially
short of Mac OS X developers.
Alan Ezust became a part-time OS X user last summer, in order to apply
some of my changes for Java 7 on that platform. He also used the
opportunity to brush up the MacOSX plugin, to make jEdit (almost) a proper
Application on that platform.
Such projects need people who stick out of the grey mass of Mac OS X
users.

Subject: [ jEdit-devel ] jEdit 5.2 release plan
There are no major new features that are planned for jEdit 5.2.
The development of jEdit has fallen into "maintenance mode" since most of
the existing developers are too busy to work on it now. For that reason,
our release schedule is time-based rather than feature-based.
To release one year after 5.1, let's be consistent and schedule 5.2pre1 for
a May 25 release date
which means I must tag 5.2.x and bump trunk to 5.3pre1 sometime before
then.
I want to release 5.2final around the end of July or beginning of August.
To other developers, please review some of the open patches that are
submitted.
Some of them should be rejected and others should be accepted. If you have
an opinion
one way or another after looking at the patch, you can post a comment in
the tracker ticket.
To Vampire, can you do the release again this year?
Are there any suggestions or comments regarding this plan?
The #1 thing I want to help get into the release is a mac installer, but it
doesn't have to come out at the same time as the regular java installer,
which has an important bugfix in it, and is one of the main reasons we
should not delay the jEdit release any further than that.
I am not a mac developer and I don't have the creds to release a .dmg
installer, so I hope another mac developer can step up to this task and
help out. I am happy to assist in the testing and releasing of it.
